We are delighted to present the 2022 vintage of Château La Croix Du Casse.
2022 is an exceptional vintage for several reasons: exceptional climate, record temperatures, very deep colour, intense flavour and superb concentration of aromas.
What dishes should this cuvée be served with?
“This red wine goes well with: red meats, dishes cooked in sauce, game birds, poultry, strong goat’s and cow’s cheeses (Brie, Vieux Chavignol, Munster), coffee or chocolate desserts”.

Some tasting notes and comments:
Jacques Dupont, Le Point: 16
“Black fruit, fresh fruitiness, black cherry, tender, fleshy palate, velvety tannins, consistent mid-palate, fine tannins, good length.”
Yves Beck, Beckustator: 90-92
“Croix du Casse suffered frost in 2022, so quantity is reduced. The bouquet is inviting with its fruity intensity and notes of black berries and liquorice. The smooth tannins give a pleasant sweetness and the wine is creamy and caressing. I think it’s already very approachable and can be enjoyed young. 2026-2032”
Colin Hay, The Drink Business: 89-91
“Croix du Casse 2022 (Pomerol; 97% Merlot; 3% Cabernet Franc; tasted at Trottevieille). Creamy. Ferrous mineral profile. A hint of cedar. Also a hint of game and horsehair. Red liquorice. Red fruit. A little red cherry. Very pure and concentrated. Quite sweet but with plenty of compensating natural freshness, so it’s taut. Brilliant and very clean in its red berry and cherry profile – there’s also a little red plum. However, the tannins are a little harsh on the finish. Minty, fresh and with decent length.”
Bettane & Desseauve: 90
“97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc make up this 2022, which froze a little, hence the enormous amount of work required to restore all the situations. Accents of liquorice on the nose and palate, caressing yet firm tannins, with a juiciness of black fruit behind.”
Jane Anson
“Pomerol really is the centre of hedonism in 2022, and here again you’ll find a richly concentrated wine, with ripe fruit to the point of over-ripeness. The tannic density is sufficient to ensure balance, and this wine is of good quality.”
Markus del Monego, Tasting Book: 91
“Deep purple colour with purple highlights and a black core. Opulent nose of ripe plums, black cherries and blackberries, blackberry jam in the background, discreet spices and hints of vanilla and liquorice. On the palate, juicy fruit, firm but ripe tannins, very good length.”
Jeff Leve, Wine Cellar Insider: 91-93
“Flowers, mushrooms, black cherries, mint leaves and cocoa are at the centre of this wine, on the nose and in the medium-bodied, elegant, soft, round, polished and fruity palate. I love the softness, elegance and refinement of this wine, as well as the chocolate powder on the finish. The wine is 97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. 14.5% ALCOHOL. Drink between 2025 and 2042”.
James Suckling
“13 Apr, 2023 – A juicy, fruity wine with hints of spice and nuts. Medium body. Light and easy. 70% of the crop affected by frost.”
